Turkey to support DU with health care, hall and mosque renovation

Dhaka University (DU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) to strengthen health care facilities and infrastructure at the university. The signing ceremony was held today at the Vice-Chancellor’s meeting room.

DU Treasurer Professor Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and TIKA Coordinator Muhammed Ali Armagan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides, while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan attended the event as chief guest.

Under the MoU, TIKA will provide technical and financial support for the renovation of the Shahid Buddhijibi Dr. Muhammad Mortaza Medical Centre, installation of an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) for advanced research, and setting up modern medical equipment to improve diagnostic and therapeutic services. A modern, fully equipped ambulance will also be provided to enhance emergency medical response.

Talking to The Daily Bangladesh Post, DU Treasurer Professor Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the project is a comprehensive health facility programme supported by Turkey. “TIKA will provide technical and financial support for the renovation of the Shahid Buddhijibi Dr. Muhammad Mortaza Medical Centre, installation of an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) to enhance advanced research capabilities, and modern medical equipment to improve diagnostic and therapeutic services. They will also assist in painting the university halls, furnishing the central mosqu,” he added.

Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha and Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, along with deans and senior officials, were also present at the ceremony.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed gratitude to TIKA, saying the support will significantly benefit students, teachers, officers, and employees of the university.
