A Dhaka court on Thursday placed former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Dhaka University Chhatra League general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat on 10-day remand each.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam passed the order after the accused were produced before the court in a murder case.

No lawyer represented them.

Following the remand order, the accused have been taken to DB office in the capital for interrogation.

Tuku, Palak and Saikat were arrested from the capital’s Khilkhet Nikunja residential area during an overnight drive. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted the drive in the area, and detained them, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Obaidur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Earlier, the case was filed against them with the Paltan police station. Police also have arrested former law minister Anisul Huq and fallen ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina's former private sector affairs adviser Salman F Rahman on Tuesday night.

DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan said they were arrested from city's Sadarghat area. These two AL leaders were shown arrested in a case filed with New Market Police station, he said.
