Trust Bank gets new MD

Trust Bank Limited has appointed Humaira Azam as its Managing Director. With this, she became the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at any bank in the country. 

Trust Bank Limited has recently appointed her to the top executive post of the bank. It got approval from the Central Bank of the country to implement this decision. 

Trust Bank is an Army Welfare Trust- sponsored bank and it received the approval of Bangladesh Bank in regards to this. Prior to this appointment, Humaira Azam was serving as the Additional Managing Director of the Bank.

Back in 1990, Humaira Azam started her banking career as a management trainee officer at ANZ Grindlays Bank. She has made several contributions to several local and foreign banks, and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs). Trust Bank recruited her in 2018 as an Additional Managing Director. She was the Deputy Managing Director and Chief Risk Officer at Bank Asia Limited during her time there between 2012 and 2018. 

From 2009 till 2011, Humaira Azam was the CEO and Managing Director of IPDC Bangladesh Limited. She also worked at Standard Chartered Bank for a total of six years between 2002 and 2009. She served as a Director and Head of GSAM for 3 years and then as a Director and Head of Financial Institutions for 3 more years. 

Since its inception, Humaira Azam worked at HSBC Bank for nearly six years. She started in 1996 and was there till 2002 holding positions of Senior Corporate Banking Manager and then later as the Head of Financial Institutions. After starting her career as a management trainee at ANZ Grindlays Bank back in 1990, she stayed there till 1996 while serving as the Manager of Business Banking.

On her Linkedin page Humaira Azam says, “In my professional career, I have found that I am capable of finding alternative options to achieve results in most given scenarios. I am fully committed to the job assigned to me and my focus, good time management & discipline allow me to prioritize my tasks well. I am a quick learner and take it as a challenge to succeed in any job. I have successfully led and worked with different teams over the last 23 years and delivered good results.”

Humaira Azam obtained her honors and master's degrees in International Relations from Dhaka University. She has attended a good number of professional training, development programmes, workshops and seminars both at home & abroad. She has been featured in the 300 most influential women in Islamic business and finance in the world in WOMAN 2020 annual report by Cambridge IFA. 

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bangladesh has presented Mrs. Azam with the 'Woman of Inspiration Award 2020' for her magnificent display of skill and irrefutable success in the financial sector of Bangladesh. She was honored with “Top Women Bankers Award” by Brac Bank Limited, Bangladesh.

She also received “BOLD (Bangladesh Organization for Learning & Development) Women of Inspiration Awards 2017” under pinnacle career achiever sub category for her outstanding contribution in Banking. Earlier, she was awarded with the “Hexagon Sales Award” by HSBC, Bangladesh for her outstanding achievement.
