U.S. President Donald Trump has said that a new agreement between the United States and Iran has been signed, marking a significant step toward easing tensions after months of conflict and diplomatic negotiations.

Speaking alongside French President Emmanuel Macron ahead of the G7 Summit in France on Monday, Trump said the deal had already been completed digitally and that a formal signing ceremony is expected to take place in Geneva later this week.

“The deal is all signed,” Trump said, adding that the full text of the agreement, described as a memorandum of understanding, would likely be released shortly after the formal ceremony.

According to U.S. officials, the memorandum has already been digitally signed by Trump, Vice President JD Vance and senior Iranian representatives. The agreement is intended to end hostilities in the Gulf region and establish a framework for further negotiations on a range of issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme.

Vance said no funds had been released to Iran as part of the agreement and stressed that any economic benefits or sanctions relief would depend on Tehran's compliance with its commitments.

One of the key elements of the agreement is the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil supplies. Trump said the waterway, which has been at the centre of regional tensions, would be fully reopened by Friday.

The agreement reportedly includes a 60-day ceasefire period to allow additional negotiations and technical discussions on longer-term security and nuclear issues. U.S. officials said sanctions relief and access to reconstruction funding would be tied to Iran meeting specific obligations under the deal.

News of the agreement prompted a positive reaction in global markets, with oil prices falling amid expectations of improved stability in the Gulf and the resumption of normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

While Washington has portrayed the accord as a major diplomatic breakthrough, questions remain over some of its details and implementation. Earlier reports indicated that Iranian officials had been cautious about confirming the final status of negotiations, though recent statements suggest both sides are moving toward formal endorsement of the agreement.

The formal signing ceremony is expected to take place in Switzerland later this week, after which the full text of the agreement is expected to be made public.
