Troops deployed to fight coronavirus

Members of armed forces have been deployed at different parts of the country to help local administrations fight the coronavirus. Members of Bangladesh Army on Tuesday started patrolling at many districts after the concerned officials held preparatory meetings with the local administrations to chalk out their plans.

Several deputy commissioners (DCs) confirmed the matter to the Bangladesh Post. Dhaka DC Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan said, “The army will start their full-fledge operation across the district soon. Manikganj DC SM Ferdous echoed Khan saying a preparatory meeting between and civil and army officials was held on Tuesday.

Sources at Manikganj DC office said, an army official with lieutenant colonel rank will lead two platoons of the troops in district with two officials with major rank are expected to join soon.

As striking forces, the troops will stay at upazila headquarters and will petrol across the area. Rangpur DC Asif Ahsan told Bangladesh Post that troops started working in three groups across the district. After visiting upazilas, Army will hold meeting with upazila nirbahi officers to chalk out plans, he added.

Narayanganj DC Jasim Uddin said troops started patrolling since the army personnel have been deployed in the five upazilas of the district. The government on Monday announced troops will be deployed to fight the coronavirus. Members of the armed forces will trace coronavirus-infected people, provided medical assistance, ensure quarantine for foreign returnees and social distance.

The naval forces would be on duty in coast areas while air force would mobilize their resources in reaching necessary medical equipment and emergency transportations.
