Nikli Upazila Awami League of Kishoreganj will hold its tri-annual conference on March 22 (Tuesday) after a long 17 years by overcoming various complications. The party has already completed all the preparations for the conference. The mood of the festival is prevailing among the leaders and workers of Awami League.
However, ordinary leaders and activists demand that their leader be elected through voting. At the same time, they urged not to include any controversial person in the team. General Secretary of Upazila Awami League and former Chairman of Upazila Parishad Karar Saiful Islam and Co-President of Upazila Awami League and former Chairman of Upazila Parishad Haji Iqbal Hossain has announced their candidacies for the post of president. On the other hand, several leaders of the party have announced their candidacies for the post of General Secretary. Among them are former Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad Rafiqul Islam Bhuiyan, Vice Chairman of Upazila Parishad Reazul Haque Ayaz and legal secretary of Upazila Awami League Asadul Haque Liton has announced.
It is learned that the Upazila Awami League is being run by a committee 17 years ago. The last conference of the Upazila Awami League was held on March 29, 2005. After that the party could not hold the conference due to various divisions and quarrels and various complications. Incumbent President Ishaq Bhuiyan and General Secretary Karar Saiful Islam were elected by the votes of the councilors at that time.
Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mirza Azam MP will be present as the chief guest in the conference.
Besides, Bangladesh Awami League Education and Human Resources Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa, Bangladesh Awami League member ABM Reazul Kabir Kawshar, Kishoreanj-5 (Nikli-Bajitpur) constituency MP Alhaj Md. Afzal Hossain, Kishoreganj- 4 (Itna-Mithamoin-Austagram) constituency MP Rezwan Ahmed Tawfiq and Kishoreganj district Awami League leaders will be present.
Leaders and activists of the local Awami League said that they are happy that the conference of Upazila Awami League will be held after a long 17 years. However, at the conference, they urged the councilors not to include the controversial ones in the party, including the opportunity to elect a leader through voting.
Upazila Awami League General Secretary Karar Saiful Islam said, I have been doing politics all my life. The workers will decide and choose their leader. The conference will be held in a democratic manner. Kishoreganj-5 (Nikli-Bajitpur) MP Alhaj Afzal Hossain said all preparations have been made for the conference. The conference will be held in a joyous atmosphere.
