Tributes paid to Bangabandhu, Rabindranath and Nazrul at DU

Joyoddhoney, a cultural organisation based on Dhaka University, paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam on Thursday.

On the occasion, a candle -lit programme was arranged at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium of Dhaka University. 

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, as a chief guest, inaugurated the programme. 

The event, which featured cultural show ‘Alokhshikha’ and discussion, was organised by the organisation to observe the death anniversary of them.

Joyoddhoney cultural organisation’s president Patha Sarker presided over the programme while Sommilito Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus, Bangladesh Chhatra League general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan among others was present as special guest.

The Vice-Chancellor said, the contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great poet Rabindranath Tagore and the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in the history of Bengali is recognised by the world. He mentioned that the poems and songs of these two poets were one of the sources of inspiration for Bangabandhu in various political crises including struggle and movement.

‘Bangabandhu dreamed of building a developed, prosperous, beautiful and democratic state by governing the country by following the constitutional rules. Bangabandhu's daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working successfully to build a humane, knowledge-based and smart Bangladesh with her ideals and values.’ He added.
