Tributes paid to 4 slain national leaders in Rajshahi

People of all walks of life including different political parties, educational institutions, corporate bodies and socio-cultural organisations here today paid glowing tributes to the four slain national leaders on the occasion of the Jail Killing Day.

Marking the day, huge wreaths were placed on the grave of Shaheed A H M Quamruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, in city's Kadirganj family graveyard besides garlanding of portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders at Awami League's party office.  Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) observed the Jail Killing Day paying rich tributes to the four national leaders assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975.

Several mourning rallies were brought out and marched toward the grave of Shaheed A H M Quamruzza­man to pay homage to the national leader. City Mayor and Presidium Member of Bangladesh Awami League AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, eldest son of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, along with his office colleagues and employees placed floral wreaths on the grave and offered prayers there.

 After Jumma prayers, milad and doa mahfil was held at different mosques in the city. City and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its associate bodies observed the day through various programmes and paid rich homage to the martyred.

Divisional and district administrations and police administrations observed the mournful day paying rich tribute to the four national leaders.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Dewan Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Deputy Inspector General of Police Anisur Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police

Biplob Bijoy Talukder, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Shamim Ahmed and Superintendent of Police (SP) Saifur Rahman placed wreaths on the grave of Shaheed A H M Quamruzzaman.  

Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Education Board, Rajshahi Medical University, Zila Parishad,

Bangladesh Silk Development Board and other educational and financial institutions including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank also observed the day in befitting manners.

Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi Manoj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor

(VC) of Rajshahi University Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar and Chairman of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority Begum Akhter Jahan also paid homage to the four national leaders. They placed floral wreaths on the grave of Shaheed A H M Quamruzzaman.
