Trial, punishment in rape cases demanded in 30 days

Published : 03 Oct 2020 09:16 PM

A human chain programme was observed in Naogaon demanding trial and exemplary punishment in rape cases within 30 working days, organised by Naogaon Ekushey Parishad Naogaon, a local socio-cultural organisation, at Mukti Mor in the town on Saturday noon.

Speakers at the human chain said that the incidence of violation is increasing across the country due to the delay in the trial of rape cases and the lack of exemplary punishment for the culprits.

This crime can be reduced a lot if the trial of rape cases is completed expeditiously and exemplary punishment of the culprits is ensured.

Naogaon Ekushey Parishad President DM Abdul Bari presided over the human chain.

Speaking on the occasion he said that those who gang-raped a young housewife while visiting an educational institution in Sylhet recently had committed  a heinous crime against human rights.

He added, today a culture has been created where no woman, child, teenager in the society is safe. Anyone can be a victim of rape at any time.

He said incidents of rape were on the rise due to a culture of impunity.

Therefore, we are demanding that the trial of the rape case to be completed within 30 working days and the culprits should be given exemplary punishment.
