Trial of three female militants begins

A Special Tribunal on Sunday started trial against three female members of banned militant organization JMB. Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of Dhaka Anti-Terror Special Tribunal ordered to start the trial by framing charges against the three top female militants. He also fixed July 24 for recording statements of the witness, said court sources.

The three accused are JMB’s former coordinator Tanvir Qaderi’s wife Abedatul Fatema alias Khadiza, JMB leader Nurul Islam Marjan’s wife Afrin alias Prioti and Basharuzzaman Chocolate’s wife Shayla Afrin. The suspected militant Tanvir Qaderi was killed during an anti-terror operation at a house in Dhaka's Azimpur in 2016.

Top militant Nurul Islam Marjan, also formerly an Islami Chhatra Shibir leader in Chittagong University, was killed in a gunfight with law enforcers in the city in 2017. Police also Basharuzzaman Chocolate later. The three female militants were injured during the police raid at a militant den in Azimpur on September 10 in 2016.

Police on the next day filed a case against several suspected militants including the three women with Lalbagh police station. A militant was killed and five cops were also injured in the shootout between police and terrorists at the capital`s Azimpur.
