The trial against suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman and suspended Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director Khandaker Enamul Basir began as a Dhaka court framed charges against them on Wednesday in a case filed over Tk 40 lakh bribery scandal.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam incited the duo and set March 23 to hear the witnesses’ testimony. Earlier on February 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Qayes accepted charge sheet before transferring the case for further proceedings to Dhaka Special Judge Court-4.

On January 19, ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya filed the charge sheet against them for allegedly leaking information and taking bribe. On July 16 last year, ACC filed the case with its Integrated District Office 1 in Dhaka under the money laundering act.

Meanwhile, both Mizan and Bashir were suspended from their offices following the lawsuit over bribery allegations. In several audio clips leaked online, DIG Mizanur was heard claiming that he had given 40 lakh as bribe to Basir to omit the former’s name in a graft investigation report.
