In Lakshmipur, as part of a nationwide tree planting program on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saplings were planted on Thursday.
A discussion meeting was held on the occasion at an open stage in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office at noon jointly organized by the Coastal Forest Department, Forest Department and District Administration under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Saifuzzaman Bhuiyan presided over the function while Deputy Commissioner Anjan Chandra Pal was the chief guest and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shafiqur Ridwan Arman Shakil was the special guest.
The greater Noakhali sub- divisional forest conservator Md. Firoz Alam delivered the welcome speech.
At the end of the meeting, DC Anjan Chandra Pal handed over the saplings to the people.He later planted some fruit and medicinal saplings on the premises of the Collectorate building.
At this time people from different walks of life in the area were present keeping social distance.
According to the forest department, under the program, 1,01,625 saplings of various fruit, medicinal and forest trees will be planted in the district through the UNOs of the five upazilas.
