State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that planting more trees is essential to protect the country from the adverse effects of climate change. Tree planting programme should be spread all over the country. Initiatives should be taken to inculcate the love of trees in children.

The State Minister said these things while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of the tree plantation programme at Chunkutia Girls High School and College in Keraniganj under the  Mujib's Green Bangladesh Project" organized by Bandhan Society of Bangladesh on Saturday. He said that the environment will be protected if the waste is managed properly. The government has therefore taken the initiative of generating electricity from waste. After planting the tree, the concerned should take responsibility for its conservation.

Seema Hamid, chairman of Bandhan Society of Bangladesh, said that the project called 'Mujib's Green Bangladesh' has been taken to contribute effectively to environmental development from the grassroots level. Plantation of fruit, forest and medicinal trees in rural areas and rooftop gardens in urban areas will be supported. Bandhan Society of Bangladesh will also work to create public awareness to avoid widespread use of polythene. He said that joint and united efforts should be continued to build a sustainable Bangladesh.

At that time, the distinguished people of Keraniganj were present.
