A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on former Dhaka WASA Managing Director (MD) Taqsem A Khan and former Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy.
On Wednesday, November 13, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain issued the order following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ACC Deputy Director Syed Nazrul Islam submitted the application seeking a travel ban on Taqsem.
The application states that there is an ongoing investigation into allegations against Taqsem and others regarding irregularities, corruption, embezzlement of crores of takas in the name of projects, and illegal wealth amassed through unlawful appointments. Previously, a 60-day travel ban was imposed on him on August 21. Since that restriction has expired, the ACC argued that a permanent ban on Taqsem’s overseas travel is essential for the thorough investigation of the allegations against him. The court issued the travel ban after taking the application into consideration.
Additionally, the same judge issued a travel ban on former NCC Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy on November 6, following another application by the ACC. However, the information was disclosed on Wednesday, November 13. ACC Court Inspector Amir Hossain confirmed this information. ACC Deputy Director Md. Neamul Ahsan Gazi submitted the application seeking a travel ban on Ivy.
The application states that there is an ongoing investigation into allegations that the individual in question misused her power, engaged in various irregularities and corruption, embezzled funds, and amassed wealth beyond known sources of income in her own name and that of family members. The ACC received reliable information suggesting that the individual could flee abroad. For the sake of a fair investigation, the ACC deemed it necessary to restrict her overseas travel. The court issued the travel ban on Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy after considering the application.
