Bus and truck workers on Tuesday blocked the road in front of the Gabtoli inter-district bus terminal in Dhaka for more than two hours demanding lift of the ban on movement of public transports, report agencies.

They also demanded supply of relief materials for them as they remained unemployed for the protracted shutdown aimed at checking spread of coronavirus.

The blockade caused congestion on the road and the workers lifted the blockade after local lawmaker Md Aslamul Haque went there and distributed some relief among 500 to 600 workers.

Darus Salam police station officials said that the workers blocked the road at around 1100am.
Several hundred workers of Dhaka city services, inter-district service and truck services joined the blockade demanding relief and lifting ban on public transports.

The government imposed ban on all road public transports to contain the coronavirus outbreak on March 26.
The workers lifted the blockade on the road around 130pm, said police.

Most of the around 70 lakh road transport workers in Bangladesh get wages based on trips they cover.
