Transport strike hits Benapole port activities

Bus, Truck and Covered Van workers continued their strike in Jashore for the 3rd consecutive day on Wednesday demanding reformation of Road Transport Act.

No goods were released through Benapole port. The port has become workless. Production of various garment industries and industrial factories in the country is being hampered due to the strike. 

Most of the country's garment industries and industrial factories raw materials are imported from India through the Benapole port. Due to the closure of the goods from the port, there has been a terrible goods jam in the port. Everyday target of the revenue Tk. 25 crore.   Azimuddin, General secretary of Benapole Transport Owners Association, said that they are opposing the new act as it needs amendment.

Benapole Land Port C&F Agents’ Association President Mafijur Rahman Sazon said export-import through the land port is being hampered due to the strike. Around 500 trucks used to carry goods at the land port everyda . he said. The leaders of Motor Workers Union demanded amendment to the Act. Meanwhile, hundreds of people were seen in  Benapole and Jashore Railway station waiting for train tickets.

Many people were forced to use alternative modes of vehicles to reach their destinations.
