A five-day EPI training workshop for the newly-recruited health assistants in 15 upazilas of Chattogram district was inaugurated on Sunday.

The training workshop began at the conference room of the District Civil Surgeon office at 10:00am. The workshop of the first batch will end on Thursday.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest and inaugurated the training workshop. Civil Surgeon's Office MODC Dr Mohammad Nurul Haider presided over the inaugural ceremony of the EPI training workshop while MOCS Dr Mohammad Naushad Khan moderated the event. World Health Organisation's Divisional Coordinator Dr Imong Prue, Patia Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Nazma Akhtar and World Health Organisation’s SIMO Dr FM Zahidul Islam spoke as the resource persons at the inaugural event.

District Health Supervisor of Civil Surgeon Office Sujan Barua, Chief Assistant SM Sahidul Islam, PA2 CS Mofizul Alam, Health Educator Kazi Masudul Alam, Health Educator Prabir Mitra and Programme Organiser Gazi Md Noor Hossain, among others, were present in the workshop.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury said the newly-appointed health assistants must perform their duties with honesty, loyalty, sincerity and efficiency as per instructions of the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer.

“Children should be vaccinated as if they are children of their brothers and sisters. Humanity cannot be understood by clothes. Parents and guardians of children coming to the hospital or vaccination centre should be treated well and tolerantly. Perform duties properly at the workplace by coordinating with family welfare assistants at EPI centres, community clinics and health complexes. Do not think of yourself as an administrator, instead work as a servant of the people. No such thing can be said as people will panic. Everyone has to deliver services to people's doorsteps from their respective locations,” said the civil surgeon.
