Training for election officials held

A three-day training for the assigned officials who will perform their duties to take votes in the upcoming 12th  national polls was held at the Gaibandha Government College Hall Room in the town  on Sunday.  

District Election Office arranged the training at the directives of the Election Commission (EC).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Nahid Rasul addressed the function as the chief guest while Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Kamal Hossain spoke as special guest. Regional Election Officer GM Shahatab Uddin was also present as special guest.

The function was also addressed, among others, by Principal of the College Professor Khalilur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner-General Abdul Awal, District Election Officer Abdul Mottalib, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmud Al-Hasan. 

The speakers said that the district and the police administrations including other government offices are fully firm to hold a free, fair, peaceful, credible, transparent and neutral parliamentary election. 

On the occasion, DC Kazi Nahid Rasul described about the voting preparation and other relating issues for the election slated on January 07.   She said legal action is being taken against the violators of the electoral Code of Conduct. Necessary action will be taken against them if complaints are received, she warned.   The chief guest called upon all polling officers to play their responsible role to make the election free, fair and impartial.

SP Kamal Hossain said it is their foremost duty to present an acceptable election in the district where the people's hopes and aspirations will be reflected properly.  He also urged the assigned officers to perform their election duties in the forthcoming parliamentary election in the district with utmost sincerity and honesty without any criticism.

He advised them particularly the presiding officials to communicate the police administration about the deterioration of law and order situation in  the centers (if needed) in a bid to bring the situation under control. 

As many as 114-assigned presiding officers, 819 assistant presiding officers and 1,638 polling officers took part in the training.

Besides, additional 257 presiding officers, assistant presiding officers and polling officers have been trained, sources said.
