A Pickup truck collided with 'Sonar Bangla Express' train at Sitakunda in Chattogram on Monday morning.  Police later seized the remains of the pickup truck as the driver fled from the scene after the accident.

According to the Railway Control Office, the accident took place at around 11.50 am in Yaqub Nagar area of Sitakunda on Monday.

However, as there was no major damage, the train left for Chattogram at 12.20pm.

Speaking to members of the Sitakunda outpost of the Railway Police, it was learned that the railway crossing in the Yakub Nagar area of Sitakunda is completely illegal.

There was no gateman at the scene.  Meanwhile, the railway authorities have formed an immediate committee to look into the cause of the accident.  Snehashish Das Gupta, Chattogram Divisional Transport Officer, Eastern Railway, said train traffic returned to normal 20 minutes after the accident.  Earlier, the Dhaka-Chattogram route was closed for about seven hours due to a derailment in Cumilla due to a collision between a train and a vegetable-carrying pickup van.
