The departure of Khulna bound Sagardari Express train from Rajshahi railway station was delayed for an hour as the fire erupted due to short-circuit of power cable in a toilet of a compartment of the train at 6-20 AM on Sunday (June-12). However, the fire was quickly doused through the fire-extinguisher.
According to railway sources, the fire erupted from the loose connection of wire or short-circuit near the electric bulb of the toilet soon after the starting of the power car of the train, just 10-minute before departure of the train from Rajshahi railway station. As a result, the entire boggy area of the train filled with smoke.
Station Manager of Rajshahi railway station Abdul Karim confirmed the incident and said the incident of fire occurred around 6-20 AM as the rod-light connection of the toilet of a Shovon Chair coach got short-circuited erupting fire and filling the boggy with smoke. The train was standing on the platform and the passengers became panicky by watching the smoke inside their compartment. The train staff doused the fire by using the fire extinguisher soon after.
Station Manager further informed there was no large-scale damage or no incident injury in the fire. Later, the damaged boggy was removed from the train and passengers were shifted to another boggy. The train, however, departs from Rajshahi station at 7-40, one-hour after the scheduled departure time.
