Chattogram, Jun 19 (UNB): Three young friends were crushed under the wheels of a Sonali Bangla Express train going from Chattogram to Dhaka in Mirsharai on Thursday night, while two of their friends just managed to escape with minor scrapes.
The deceased were identified as Arafat Hossain, 18, Anis, 18 and Riaz, 18, of Madhyam Sonapahar village in Jorarganj union of the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) Station in Chattogram Shahidul Islam said five friends were having a chat sitting on the rail tracks in the Madhyam Sonapahar area in Mirsharai around 8pm, when they were hit by the Chattogram-bound train.
The impact killed the trio named earlier on the spot, the OC said, while the other two just managed to avert a fatal blow.
Police were working on the scene to find the answers to some obvious questions such as why the friends could not move away as the train approached.
These details would be shared later following investigation, the OC said.
