We express profound shock and sorrow over the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. He was declared dead on Monday after rescue teams found his crashed helicopter in a fog-shrouded western mountain region, sparking mourning in the Islamic Republic and other foreign countries across the globe.
Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has ultimate authority in Iran, declared five days of mourning and assigned vice president Mohammad Mokhber, 68, to assume interim duties as interim President ahead of elections within 50 days. Killed alongside Raisi were Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and seven others, including the pilot, bodyguards and political and religious officials, according to international dailies and news agencies reports.

Newspapers, news agencies, television channels and other media across the world are now being inevitably dominated by the Ebrahim Raisi’s tragic demise, printing special editions and broadcasting news to mark the occasion. From Bangladesh, we also express our deepest condolences to and wish for divine consolation for such a sensitive loss. Iran has lost a wise and erudite leader whose empathy with the people made him outstanding.
