To celebrate Bijoya Dashami in a festive mood, traditional boat race was held at Satpara in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The event was organised by the local youth community and took place on the Bilrut Canal of the Madhumati River, continuing a long-standing tradition observed during Durga Puja.

Various types of boats, including Sarenga, Ship, Kosha, Chilakata, Joynagar, and Bachari Bahari, participated in the lively competition, drawing thousands of enthusiastic spectators.

In the backdrop of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, BNP’s Gopalganj-2 constituency nomination aspirant, former district BNP president and ex-MP M.H. Khan Monju, was seen actively campaigning aboard a trawler. He urged the public to vote for the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, pledging to implement the 31-point reform agenda announced by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Among those present were Ramendranath Sarkar, President of the Central Kalibari Temple; former district BNP member Sheikh Yahia; Sharif Aminul Islam Tikka; former joint secretary of Jubo Dal Md. Liton Mia; Masud Sheikh, Office Secretary of the Labour Federation; Tapash Kumar Sarkar, former President of Singa Union BNP; Dipankar Biswas, Member of Satpara Union Parishad; and Bishnupada, along with leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations.

The boat race attracted a massive crowd, turning the event into a grand village fair. Despite rainfall earlier in the day, the weather cleared by afternoon, allowing the race to be held in a joyful and vibrant atmosphere. Rural stalls and festivities lined the riverside, creating a celebratory mood and bringing the community together for one of the region’s most cherished traditional events.
