Traders jailed for poisoned shrimp sale in Noakhali

The mobile court seized 120 kg of shrimp fish mixed with poisonous jelly after raiding Noakhali Municipal Market. Two fish traders named Atiqul Islam and Ismail Hossain have been sentenced to 7 days in prison for their involvement in the incident. The seized fishes were blown to the ground and destroyed.

Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of Mobile Court Nizam Uddin Ahmed conducted the operation in the municipal market of Noakhali district town on Thursday afternoon. District Fisheries Office and Sudharam Model Thana Police cooperated in the operation.

It is known that the mobile court raided the municipal market of Sadar Upazila on Thursday afternoon based on secret information. At this time, various fish shops were raided in the market. 

During the operation, fish traders Atiqul and Ismail Chingri were accused of adding jelly to the fish and increasing its weight. 

Later, after testing their fish, both of them were jailed for 7 days as the charges were proved. Later, the seized jellied fishes were blown to the ground and destroyed.

Sadar Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of Mobile Court Nizam Uddin Ahmed said that various unscrupulous traders have been selling fish by inserting jheli to increase the weight of shrimp fish in Maijdi Municipal Market. Special operations are conducted on the basis of such information. In addition to this, all fish traders have been warned about mixing any harmful dyes or chemicals in fish. Our campaign against dishonest traders will continue.
