A fertiliser and pesticide dealer in Akandbariya Bazar of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila has been fined Tk 1 lakh for selling fertiliser to farmers at inflated prices. The fine was imposed by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.
Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Chuadanga district office of the Directorate, said a market inspection was conducted between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm on Sunday in the Bagerampur Union area. During the inspection, it was found that M/S Kamrul Traders, owned by Kamrul Hasan, was selling expired pesticides and overcharging for TSP fertiliser—selling it at Tk 1,850 instead of the official rate of Tk 1,350, and Bangla TSP at Tk 2,300 instead of Tk 1,350.
Kamrul Hasan was fined Tk 1 lakh under Sections 40 and 51 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. In addition, eight sacks of Bangla TSP were seized on suspicion of being counterfeit and have been sent for testing through the Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office. Further action will follow based on the results.
Other local traders were instructed to update price lists, sell products at fair prices, and avoid selling expired, substandard goods or counterfeit products.
The operation was assisted by CAB representative Rafiqul Islam and members of the Chuadanga District Police.
