In order to increase the revenue collection in the corona situation, it has been decided to continue the import and export activities through Benapole land port on Friday holiday as on other days of the week.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of India-Bangladesh customs ports and traders at the initiative of Benapole C and F Agents Association on Thursday morning, said Mofizur Rahman Sazon, president of the association.

He said the decision was taken at a joint meeting of five organizations involved in import and export activities.

Alhaj Nuruzzaman, senior Vice-president of the Benapole C&F Agents Association, said the trade with India had come to shut down for almost three months due to the corona situation. In order to keep the wheel of the country's economy running, Benapole Customs, in consultation with the port authorities, decided to continue all kinds of import export activities running on Friday as on other days.

Ali Hossain, joint secretary of the Benapole Import-Export Association, said commercial banks at the Benapole port would have to be kept open on Fridays for the trade facilities. This is because at the time of shipment and delivery of goods, the revenue from imported goods and the necessary documents for the release of goods have to be transacted through these banks. It is often seen that even if the banks closed on Friday, there is no benefit for the traders.

It is learned that about TK. 50,000 crore worth of imports and TK. 6,000 crore worth of exports traded with India through Benapole port every year. The government earns about Tk 5,000 crore from revenue from import trade and about Tk 10,000 crore in foreign exchange from export trade.

Director of Benapole Port Mohammad Mamun Tarafdar said, "We have kept the port open 7 days a week." When import and export start, everything will be handled normally. All arrangements have been made if anyone wants to deliver the goods from the port.
