The month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2021 will be arranged at its permanent ground at Purbachal in the city, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said. The trade fair is likely to be held there instead of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from 2021. Besides, the duration of the fair has been extended up to February 6.
The commerce minister said this while addressing the closing ceremony of the country's biggest international trade fair on Sunday. The minister said trade fair this year has been successful in all aspects for combined efforts of the government as well as the participating private companies.
Tipu Munshi said business is the main driving force of the economy, and the present government has ensured a business-friendly environment in the country.
Highlighting various development activities of the government, the minister said Bangladesh will soon become an upper middle income country, as the government has been implementing massive development projects in the light of the “Vision 2021” and “Vision 2041”.
He said, "We are ahead of many countries in the world in terms of GDP growth."
Commerce Secretary Md. Jafar Uddin, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Vice President Md. Siddiqur Rahman and Vice Chairman of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Fatima Yasmin also spoke on the occasion.
Commerce Secretary Md. Jafar Uddin told reporters tenure of the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has been extended for 2 days till February 6 to compensate the three days’ closure due to the commencement of the Mujib Barsho Countdown and Dhaka City Corporations’ elections.
"The 25th DITF-2020 was scheduled to end on 31st of the current month. But the fair remained closed on 31st January and 1st February for holding the DCCs’ polls 1", sources at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) said.
Earlier, the trade fair has been extended for 4 days as businessmen proposed an extension of the fair for eight more days, he added.
A total of 37 institutions were awarded under 14 categories. Abul Khayer bagged the first price in the premier pavilion category while Walton Hi-Tech secured the second position in the category.
Participants thanked both the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce for giving such awards. Customers are the big partner of our awards, they said.
However, the fair will remain open daily from January 1 to February 4 from 10 am to 10 pm. Tickets for the fair will also be available online this time.
This time the ticket for the fair has been fixed at 40 Taka for adult and Tk 20 for children.
A total of 490 stalls and pavilions including 68 premium pavilions, 57 premium mini pavilions and 365 stalls with restaurants will be set up in the fair venue.
A total of 20 foreign countries, including India, Pakistan, China, South Korea, Iran, Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, the Maldives, Japan, Italy, Denmark Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia and Hong Kong applied for participating in the fair this year.
The major items that are put on parade at the fair venue this time include machinery, carpets, cosmetics and beauty products, electronics, jute, leather and sports goods, sanitary ware, toys, ceramics, fabrics, processed foods, furniture and handicrafts.
Apart from the business stalls, amusement park for children, mother and child center, separate booths and security service rooms for male and female, fire service station, blood donation center, complaint center of the Consumer Rights Protection, power grid sub-station, generation station and space for car parking have been arranged inside the fair compound.
