Tenure of the ongoing Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has been extended till February 4 to compensate the three days’ closure due to the commencement of Mujib Barsho Countdown and imminent Dhaka City Corporations’ elections.
The 25th DITF-2020 was scheduled to end on 31st of the current month. But the fair will remain closed on 31st January and 1st February to ensure fair environment for holding the DCCs’ polls on February 1, sources at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) said.
On the other hand, the trade fair remained closed on January 10 on occasion of the commencement of the countdown of Mujib Barsho, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Commerce Ministry sources said the decision for extending the time for fair was taken on Monday. The ministry took the decision following a request of the businessmen participating in the DITF 2020.
Mohammad Abdur Rouf, member secretary of DITF said, “Considering the demand of the participants as well as interest of the visitors, decision has been taken to extend the time for the trade fair for four days.”
Earlier, businessmen proposed an extension of the fair for eight more days ending it on 8 February instead of 31 January, he added.
Last year, the Dhaka International Trade Fair was extended by a day following the demand of participating businesses and visitors, he informed. However, the fair will remain open daily from 10 am to 10 pm as usual.
