‘Tourism industry to get army support to turn around’

All police stations resume operation in Cox’s Bazar on limited scale

The army will provide all kinds of support for the Cox's Bazar tourism industry so that the sector can be turned around again.

Major General Sheikh Md Sarwar Hossain, GOC and Area Commander of the 10th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army in Cox's Bazar,was talking to reporters after visiting Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station on Saturday afternoon. 

“The activities in all the police stations of Cox's Bazar district have started on a limited scale and it will take some time to fully operationalise police services. All types of cooperation is being given on behalf of the army,” said the army officer.

Major General Sheikh Md Sarwar said in the ongoing situation of the country, the members of the army are on the side of the common people. Students are also helping the army. In this situation, due to various reasons, work is going on to activate services of police stations in full swing, he said.

Referring to the inspection of five police stations of Cox's Bazar till Saturdaynoon, he said the activities and presence of the police in Cox's Bazar are satisfactory. Every police station has army personnel and there are members of Ansar as well. Some furniture and necessary equipment were looted from the police stations and it is being arranged as soon as possible by the army, he said.

Praising the student representatives, he said the students are already roaming around the areas, recovering the looted goods of the police stations and bringing them back to the police stations. Such activities of the students continue while the army is also supporting them.

Commenting that Cox's Bazar is a harmonious district and the people of the area are peaceful, he said discussions will be held with the businessmen related to tourism sector soon. Law and order situation will return to normal and tourists will visit again and again.

The GOC of 10th Infantry Division of the Army visited the police station premises and spoke to the policemen present there. He assured them all kinds of cooperation. 

He said all kinds of support, including food, will be given on behalf of the army till the situation becomes normal. The police stations will be provided with everything needed because law and order cannot be normalised without the police.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Mahfuzul Islam said the activities have started in eight police stations of Cox's Bazar on a limited scale. The process will start in full swing.  He also said a quick decision will be made from the headquarters regarding the damaged goods and evidence.

Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Mohammad Shaheen Imran said, “The situation is slowly getting better. Hope everything will be fine soon.”

The DC has sought the cooperation of common people in this regard. Meanwhile on Friday, an army team came to Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station and inspected the police station. 

Besides ensuring the safety of the tourists coming to Cox's Bazar, the army officials have called upon the tourists to come to Cox's Bazar. 

During the inspection, commanding officer of the army's Cox's Bazar headquarters Lt. Colonel Tanveer Ahmed said Cox's Bazar is a tourist district and special measures have been taken so that tourists can come here safely and roam around like before. The army has strengthened patrolling in the entire Cox's Bazar area.

The army officer also said that action will be taken if there is any kind of extortion in the tourist zone.

Army personnel continued patrolling in various areas of Cox's Bazar.
