Alongside the ongoing vaccination campaign, the government’s strict measures to contain the sharp rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, will improve the situation and protect the people as well.

But, we think if the people don’t follow the health safety rules and guidelines, the government's efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus will go in vain.

In the wake of the sharp rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, earlier the government issued an 18-point directive asking the people to cooperate with it in containing the deadly virus onslaught by maintaining health guidelines.

Apart from the 18-point directive, the government also imposed a 16-day ban on entry of passengers from all European nations except the UK and 12 other countries.

Besides, restriction has also been imposed on mass gathering in social, political, religious and other assemblies, celebrations of wedding, birthday and other functions.

People have also been asked to refrain from going to some tourists’ spots and recreation centres and fairs and cinema halls. The Election Commission also postponed all elections until further notice.

Country’s people have also been requested to follow proper health rules, including wearing masks while performing prayers in mosques and other religious places of worship.

And all government and non-government organisations are continuing their operations minimising manpower through making internal adjustment.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also repeatedly told the people to wear masks and follow the health guidelines even after taking the jabs against coronavirus.

The country is witnessing a sudden surge in the COVID-19 infection as the people are ignoring the health guidelines since vaccination against the virus started.

And surely, such an attitude towards the coronavirus can be costly for them.

We think that people’s attitude towards the coronavirus would place us in a most unfortunate situation in the coming days if we continue to violate the health rules.   Therefore, we must cooperate with the government to contain the spread of Covid-19 as we did immediately after the coronavirus breakout.
