Touchstone statue seized from Jamalpur

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) -14 members recovered a Touchstone idol worth about Tk 1 crore at Sarishabari in Jamalpur district.

 The idol was recovered from Shamerpara in Mahadan union of the upazila on Sunday evening.

 Aftab Uddin, 60, son of late Rafadan Mandal of Mahadan village and Abdul Majid, 50, son of late Azam Mandal of Baushi Gazaria village were arrested for being involved in the smuggling.

 According to police, a team of RAB and police conducted a joint operation on Sunday evening in the yard of Farhad Fakir’s under-construction building in Shamerpara of the upazila on the basis of secret information that a Touchstone idol was being smuggled there.

 From there, searching a plastic sack, a 13-inch-long black stone statue was found. The statue weighs 11.5 kg and its estimated value is about Tk 1 crore.  Officer-in-Charge of Sarishabari Police Station Mir Rakibul Haque said a Touchstone statue was recovered and two people were arrested.
