The country’s judicial system will be fully digitized in the next two years. A project titled ‘e-Judiciary’ will be undertaken at a cost of Tk 2,224 crore to make the system easier for people.
The project aims to make the judicial system across the country fully technology dependent, accessible to people soon with less cost and also make it easier for judges and lawyers to perform their judicial duties.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said this while speaking as the chief guest at the official launch of Online Cause List, Judicial Monitoring Dashboard and MyCourt app jointly organized by the Law and Justice Department and UNDP Bangladesh at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.
He said, “About 2,000 courtrooms would be digitized through the project. The court will have an audio recording pool system. There will be virtual terminals as well. Besides, 14 central jails will be digitalized. Camera trial rooms will be set up in 64 district jails, including nine central jails, so that the accused can participate in the hearing from jail. Our own virtual meeting platform ‘Boithok’ will be used to communicate all the information of the judicial system in a secure system.”
He said a four-tier datacenter would be set up in the Supreme Court under the Joint Response Plan (JRP) to ensure the sovereignty of judicial information. The a2i, Bangladesh Computer Council, Supreme Court and the Law and Justice Division have come up with a new model of the project in the last few years.
Law Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar said, “The Law and Justice Division has been working for a long time to ensure judicial services for all through digitization. As part of this, online Causelist (Judicial Monitoring Dashboard), Amar Adalat (MyCourt) mobile app have been launched today to take the judicial process of Bangladesh forward. The Department of Law and Justice is currently working on the implementation of the e-Judiciary project as a sustainable and important project. This will ensure an effective and accountable justice system.”
Brahmanbaria District and Sessions Judge Begum Sharmin Nigar was present as the special guest, UNDP Resident Representative Sudipto Mukherjee delivered the welcome address, and a2i’s Policy Advisor Anir Chowdhury gave a detailed presentation on online judicial services.
