Zishan, one of the most wanted top terrors of the country, arrested in Dubai city of United Arab Emirates (UAE), will be brought back home immediately, police headquarters confirmed on Friday. UAE police arrested him from Dubai city on Wednesday. In the face of massive crackdown against the notorious criminals, Zishan went into hiding in UAE.
Talking to media, Mahiul Islam, Assistant Inspector General of Police of Bangladesh National Central Bureau, said Dubai police arrested Zishan on Wednesday night. “Interpol informed us that Zishan was arrested by Dubai police on Wednesday night. We are preparing documents and necessary papers to bring back Zishan home immediately,” he said.
The International Criminal Police Organization, popularly known as INTERPOL, is an international organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation and crime control. Mahiul Islam said police seized two passports from Zishan, one Indian and another one of Dominican Republic. In the Indian passport his name is Ali Akbar Chowdhury, the police official added.
“His photograph has been sent to the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. We have identified him as top terrorist Zishan,” he said. Soon after the general elections in 2001, the then BNP-Jamaat government had announced a list of 23 most wanted criminals and a reward ranging in between Tk 50,000 – 100,000 for each of their arrest.
However, Zishan’s name was not included in the list though he was accused in several murder and extortion cases. Zishan was a notorious criminal in city’s Malibagh, Khilgaon and Moghbazar area. He used to control all sorts of criminals activities including killing, extortion, mugging and drug peddling of these areas.
In 2002, Zishan murdered two inspectors of the detective branch of police at Sunrise Hotel in Malibagh area. After the murder, he crossed border and took shelter in India to avert arrest. Kolkata police arrested Zishan in 2009 and later released him. But staying in Kolkata he used to control the Dhaka’s underworld.
Later using Indian passport he flew to UAE and started staying there. He got involved in criminal activities in UAE. Recently Zishan demanded Tk 10 crore from Casino kingpins and Jubo League leaders Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat and Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan.
