Eight more days are still pending to get election symbols but the high voltage mayor candidates are seriously busy winning minds and have been starting informal campaigns everyday in the different communities and society within the city jurisdiction.
Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, senior vice president Narayanganj District unit Awami League who has been occupying chair of Narayanganj city mayor for last 8 years also nominated by her party Awami League, she recently offered prayer at Shirin(Darga) at Bandor area widely known Kadomrasul Darga, as the view of getting blessed for her winning in the election race.
On the other hand, district unit BNP president Advocate Taimur Alam Khandoker participated in a special prayer at a mosque at Masdair area in the city to ask dua to the pilgrims for him for the upcoming election.
Ivy in a meeting at her residence urged the people, “please pardon me if I did any wrong or anybody being hurt by my words. I never forwarded without the consent of my mother but she is now at her eternal rest since July this year. Father who was chairman of this pouroshova, left us forever when I was a student of HSC level. Father desired for me to be a physician; I fulfilled that with highly struggle. So you are my guardian now.” She added that “I didn’t do any corruption. The city inhabitants have seen my works in the last 18 years. I ask their vote and support again.” She turned the election into an ‘uncle-niece’ election.
Advocate Taimur Alam Khandoker raised an allegation that the ruling party nominated a candidate violating the election rules.
He hinted to Ivy addressed that many more meetings have been organized by Ivy and her activists in different parts of the city though the symbol is not allotted, it’s completely violating the election rule.
He added that to verbally inform district election officer Matiur Rahman but he didn’t get any answer or result.
The observer as well as political conscious people calculating the equation that Taimur once was left from the race, how he overcame this election fighting with heavy weight candidate Dr. Ivy.
Some have observed that Taimur has been inspired by the antagonist of Ivy though they belong to the Awami League. Shamim Osman and others have been defeated by Ivy in the last eighteen years in different elections.
Taimur brushed boldly and delivered that he was a candidate from his senses. He thinks that a change is needed in the city corporation.
The other six mayor candidates have no work found in the election atmosphere.
A total of 5,17,357 voters including only 4 transgender voters will exercise their votes through electronic voting machine(EVM) on January 16, 2022.
As per election schedule, the nomination papers would be scrutinized on December20, candidature withdrawal on December27, symbol allotting on December 28 and the polls would be held on January 16, 2022.
