A one-and-a-half-year-old child was killed after being run over by a truck at Senbagh upazila in Noakhali district on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred in front of Senbagh Government Pilot High School in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Muzakkir, son of Md Akram, a resident at Fakir Bari in Dulalpur village under Narsingdi district.
According to locals, Muzakkir was walking with his mother at Senbagh Bazar. While walking, he, at one point ran into the road.
During the moment, a fast-approaching truck struck the toddler on the road and left him dead on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mizanur Rahman said that locals immediately detained the truck and its driver and informed the police.
Being informed, police rushed to the scene and took both the truck and the driver into custody.
Legal action will be taken based on a written complaint from the victim's family, the OC added.
