‘Today’s children will build golden Bengal’

Recalling Bangabandhu’s speech- ‘Golden people are needed to build golden Bengal (Sonar Bangla)’, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Saturday said today's golden generation of children will build the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu's dream.

He also said, “If the country did not achieve independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu, we would have to shoulder the responsibility of a failed state like Pakistan. We are ahead of Pakistan in every field. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given us economic freedom.” 

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam came up with the assertion while he was speaking on the occasion of the great Independence Day 2022 celebrations participated by children and adolescents on the BTCL ground (Mohakhali T&T ground) in the capital on Saturday.  

The Mayor was present as the chief guest at a fun fair and documentary exhibition about Bangabandhu and Bangladesh titled "Let's Know Bangabandhu" organized by DNCC.

In the fair, children participated in sports, races and children’s games. There was a carousel, bioscope and puppet show for children. The fair also featured treats, ice cream, and candies for children.

At the end of the speech, the Mayor announced the happy inauguration of 'Come to know Bangabandhu' by flying balloons with the children.

Distinguished educationist Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal was present on the occasion as a special guest.

Addressing the children, he said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has brought this freedom which we are celebrating today. You will always remember the name of Bangabandhu."

Councilors and senior officials were also present at the event presided over by Md Selim Raza, Chief Executive Officer, DNCC.

Paying homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu, the DNCC Mayor inaugurated the sports competition organized at Gulshan Youth Club ground to celebrate the great independence and National Day.

During this time, he celebrated the great Independence Day with the slogan 'Joy Bangla Joy Bangabandhu' and cut the cake with all the participants in cricket, basketball and badminton.
