TMFF concludes with ‘Ajob Karkhana’ in the spotlight

The seventh Toronto Multicultural Film Festival 2024 (TMFF)  has successfully ended in Toronto, Canada. The festival, known for celebrating diversity in cinema, opened with the Bangladeshi film 'Ajob Karkhana,' directed by Shabnam Ferdowsi. This Bengali film was the highlight of the first day, along with nine short films from five different countries.

The five-day event started on July 25 at Cineplex Oden on Lebovic Avenue in Toronto. The festival was organized by Toronto Film Forum(TTF) and began with a grand ceremony. Famous Bangladeshi filmmaker Morshedul Islam officially inaugurated the festival.

Monis Rafiq, the general secretary and coordinator of Toronto Film Forum, gave a welcome speech at the opening. Other notable speakers included Bangladesh Biman Toronto Country Manager Md. Mesbah Uddin, representative of Scarborough Southwest MP Bill Blair, Alex Brimham, and festival director Enayet Karim Babul. The event was moderated by Toronto Film Forum Executive Member Sharmin Sharmi.

This year's festival showcased a total of 62 films, including both full-length and short-length feature films and documentaries. These films were created by independent filmmakers from 27 different countries. The festival provided a platform for diverse voices and stories, highlighting the importance of independent and alternative cinema.

Toronto Film Forum has been organizing the Toronto Multicultural Film Festival since 2017. The main goal of this event is to give independent filmmakers a chance to showcase their work and to promote films made in different languages and cultures. The organization has been active since 2014, supporting filmmakers from around the world. 

The festival is considered a significant event for cinema lovers in Toronto, bringing together a wide range of cultural experiences through film.
