Tk 572 cr MCC budget approved

Mymensingh City Corporation's (MCC) budget for fiscal year 2023-2024 of Tk 572 crore 11 lakh has been approved. 

Among them, the revenue budget is Tk 111 crore, and the development budget is Tk 460 crore. At the same time, a revised budget of Tk 407 crore and 94 lakh was passed against the proposed budget of Tk 414 crore for the fiscal year 2022-23.

In the budget meeting held at Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium on Thursday (November 16) afternoon, MCC Mayor Md Ekramul Haque Titu said that they should serve the people by involving themselves more in public welfare work and all efforts should be made to ensure that uninterrupted service to the public is not disrupted.

In the proposed budget for the financial year 2023-24, expenditure on the general infrastructure sector is Tk 45 crore and 22 lakh, expenditure on the education sector is Tk 83 lakh and 55 thousand, expenditure on health sector is Tk 3 crore and 66 lakh; for cleanliness sector is Tk 26 crore 34 lakh, power engineering/street lighting sector Tk 9 crore, social welfare and slums, 1 crore 20 lakh for development, Tk 4 crore 64 lakh for miscellaneous sectors, Tk 4 crore 23 lakh for water sector and Tk 460 crore for development sectors have been approved.

Before the budget meeting, the 22nd corporation meeting of the month was held at Shaheed Shahabuddin Auditorium.  Consolidation of the decisions of the 21st meeting, digging of canals to alleviate waterlogging, removal of illegal structures, mosquito killing to prevent dengue and various issues were discussed. 

Moreover, Mayor Titu also said that Mymensingh City Corporation is in a good position in terms of dengue prevention, waste management, etc. However, for the overall success of these activities, people's cooperation is essential. Subsequently, citizens should come forward in these activities.

The MCC Mayor also stated that the Prime Minister has given a project worth around Tk 1900 crore to Mymensingh City Corporation within a short time of announcement of the City Corporation. These activities are ongoing across the city. Citizens have already started getting its benefits.  Because of covid -19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, this programme have been less dynamic, and more development activities would have been possible. He also added that due to taking initiatives to clear the encroachment and renovate the canal, there was no waterlogging in the Mymensingh City Corporation area, even during the rainy season.

The Mayor thanked all those involved in clearing and renovating the canal and ordered the continuation of these activities. The meeting was  attended by CEO of MCC Md. Yusuf Ali, President and Panel Mayor 1 Md. Asif Hossain Don, Panel Mayor 2 Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Panel Mayor 3 Samima Akhter and Councilors, Secretary Md. Arifur Rahman, Chief Accounting Officer Asim Saha, regional executive officers, heads of departments and branches and other officials were present.
