Tk 479-cr Brahmaputra dyke construction underway

Construction work is underway at a cost of Taka 479.23 crore to prevent erosion of left bank of Brahmaputra River in Rowmari and Rajibpur upazilas of Kurigram district. If the dam of Bamti is constructed, Thousands of people along with their families living on the banks of Rowmari and Rajibpur Brahmaputra rivers will be saved from destruction. The families affected by the river erosion are breathing a sigh of relief after seeing the pace of embankment construction project. Thousands of acres of arable land will be saved, locals hoped.

The implementation of the Prime Minister's announcement that villages will be cities has touched the development of the region. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain MP is trying his best to save the map of Upazila Rowmari and Rajibpur from the erosion of the terrible Brahmaputra River.

According to the information received, in the financial year 2019 and 2020, from Ghughumari of Rowmari Upazila to Mohanganj of Rajibpur Upazila, the conservation work of Brahmaputra River is being carried out by Kurigram Power Division. The works are being implemented through 15 contractors including 4 from the company, 4 from Standard Company, 1 from Taj Manzil, 1 from JDMM Builders, 1 from Messrs Dawn Corporation.

According to Shafiqul Islam (MC), the engineer in charge of RFL company, the allocation for the work of 1 km between 1,7,8 and 9,100 meters is around Tk 105 crore. They are hopeful that the bouldering damping sand filling and casting work will be completed and the placing work will be completed this year and the damping work will also be completed.

In this regard, MC Engineer Aktaruzzaman in charge of Arrow Conservation Company, PM Piyas in charge of JB MM Builders and Engineering Ltd., Messrs. 

Dawn Corporation and Sunfair Construction Ltd. are in charge. The pressing work is going on and we are continuing our efforts to prevent the erosion before the flood.

Abdullah Al Maman, an engineer with the Kurigram District Water Development Board, said, "I went to inspect the protection work on the left bank of the Brahmaputra River in February last year. However, the contractor has been pressured to complete the work quickly. So that the river erosion can be prevented by completing the work before the flood.

Mostafizur Rahman Robin, youth and sports affairs secretary of the upazila Awami League, said under the direction of the present government, the area has undergone extensive development including bridges, culverts, sluice gates and roads. Local MP State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mr Zakir Hossain has been working tirelessly for the development of the area to continue the trend of development of the Prime Minister.

Abu Hanif, general secretary of the river erosion prevention implementation committee, said the locals would not have to lose their resources if the Bamti dam was built. Rowmari and Rajibpur upazilas will go one step further towards development and I thank the Hon'ble Prime Minister.

Bandaber UP chairman and war-wounded freedom fighter Alhaj Md Abdul Quader said that once the work of protection of left bank of Brahma­putra river is completed, many families will be saved from river erosion and Roumari upazila will also be protected.
