Tk 4.5cr gold bars seized in Jhenaidah

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in Moheshpur frontier of Jhenaidah seized a huge consignment of gold bars worth over Tk 4 crore. The gold bars, each weighing for one kilogram (kg,) were seized from the Matila border outpost area in Moheshpur on Saturday morning. 

But the men, who were carrying the could not be nabbed as they had entered neighbouring India being chased by the border guards, said the BGB sources at 58 battalion office in Jhenaidah. 

BGB 58 Battalion Director HM Salah Uddin Chowdhury in a press release said, the BGB men had taken shelter in a crop field when they (BGB men) were informed that a huge consignment of gold bars was being smuggled out to neighboring India by some of smugglers through Matila border of Moheshpur upazila. 

The smugglers pretented that they were involved in caring the crop land in the guise of agriculture labourers, to carry the bars towards India. But sensing the presence of BGB men, the smugglers had left the place towards the bordering area in India immediately. Later, the BGB men seized five gold bars, each weighing one kilogram wrapped with paper. 

The approximate price of the gold bars was estimated to be Tk 4.45crore.

The BGB was preparing to file a case with Moheshpur police station and depositing the seized gold bars to concerned authorities, BGB58 battalion director HM Salah Uddin Chowdhury said.
