Kotwali police have arrested a man named Sekandar Ali (55) on charges of cheating under the guise of fake secretary of Chittagong port. Police have received information against him for embezzling Tk 35 lakh in the name of giving jobs to people.
He was arrested from Moulvibazar area of Chandgaon police station on Thursday morning. Sekandar Ali is the son of Zafar Ahmed of the area.
According to the case statement, Sekander demanded Tk 15 lakh for giving a job to the son of an Abul Kashem in the port on December 25, 2018. He agreed, thinking of a better future for her son. Fraudster Sekander promised to pay in two installments to make himself credible. It is assured that the son will be recruited. Later, AbulKashem handed over 3 lakh 50 thousand taka to Sekandar Ali in the first phase.
In return, he was given a blank check from Rupali Bank as security. Three months later, the fake secretary asked him to bring the remaining Tk 11.5 lakh as his son had got a job. AbulKashem paid the rest as promised. Then when the boy went to join the job, he saw that he was not hired, the whole thing was fake.
They then tried to contact the fake secretary but failed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station Nezamuddinsid that Sekandar Ali is a professional fraudster. He has deceived people by introducing himself as secretary in different places. We have received three more such complaints. We are looking for more members of this group.
