Tk 35,374 crore allocated for agri sector

In the proposed budget, the allocation of Tk 1,676 crore has been increased for the agriculture sector. In the new budget, an allocation of Tk 35,374 crore has been proposed for the agriculture sector (agriculture, food and fisheries and livestock) that was Tk 33,698 crores this fiscal. 

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said this while presenting the proposed national budget for the financial year 2023-2024 in the National Parliament on Thursday. 

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has digitally presented the national budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 in the Parliament under the title of ‘Towards Smart Bangladesh after one and a half decades of development journey’. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present in Parliament.

In the budget speech, the finance minister said that farmers are being provided with agricultural inputs and loan assistance through the agricultural inputs assistance card. The number of card holder farmers has now increased to around 2 crores. We have taken initiatives to provide smart cards to all farmers.

The finance minister also said that farmers are being given incentives and rehabilitation facilities to compensate for the losses caused by natural disasters such as floods, droughts, cyclones, landslides etc. The government has introduced the 'AIP' award for the important person in the agriculture sector for his contribution to the agriculture sector and it was awarded for the first time in 2022.
