Tk 339cr budget announced for CU

Record allocation in research sector this year

Chittagong University has announced Tk 339.18 crore budget of the university for 2019-2020 fiscal year. Tk 4 crore 20 lakh has been allocated in research, while the allocation was Tk 75 lakh last year. The senate, the highest policy making body of the university, approved the budget at its 31st meeting held at the Vice-Chancellor’s auditorium at AR Mallik Bhaban on the campus.

Acing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Shirin Akther chaired the meeting, while CU acting registrar KM Nur Ahmed placed the budget before the meeting.Of the total budget, Tk 316 crores will come from the University Grants Commission (UGC) as the government grant while Tk 16.50 crores will come from internal sources and Tk 6.68 crores were shown as deficit budget.

Of the budget, the expenditure including, Tk 269.40 crores will be spent for salary and other allowances for the teachers and employees, Tk 53 crores for meeting pension, TK 4.20 crores for research work, and Tk 56.28 crores for maintenance, capital and grants, other educational purposes and miscellaneous, CU acting registrar KM Nur Ahmed said.

Former Minister and senate member Engineer Mosharrf Hossain, Yousuf Abdullah Harun MP, Washika Ayesha Khan, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Mahfuzur Rahman Mita and Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Abdul Mannan, among others, took part in the budget discussion.
