Compensation cheques have been distributed among the owners of the land acquisitioned for the construction of a 1,320-megawatt coal-fired power plant at Kalapara in Patuakhali, one of the mega projects the present government is implementing at different parts of the country.
Patuakhali-4 constituency Member of Parliament Muhibur Rahman Muhib and Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Kamal Hosean handed over the cheques for Tk 3.77 crore to 160 affected families at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Monday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Obaidur Rahman, Upazila Chairman SM Rakibul Ahsan, Municipal Mayor Bipul Chandra Hawlader, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abdul Motaleb Talukder, Press Club President Humayun Kabir and UP Chairman Shawkat spoke at the cheque distribution event, presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque.
Affected families said they are happy to receive the cheques without any harassment. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has undertaken 10 mega projects in the country that are expected to change the country’s economic landscape.
One of such mega projects is the power plant which is being built in Dhankhali area under Kalapara of Potuakhali district.
