Tk 26.55cr seized from Enu, Rupon’s house

The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized around Tk26.55 crore during an overnight special drive at the residence of expelled Awami League leader Enamul Haque Enu and his brother Rupon Bhuiyan in old part of the capital Dhaka. Talking to the reporters Lt Col Rakibul Hassan, Commanding Officer of RAB-3 confirmed it.

He said, a team of RAB-3 raided at the house located at Lalmohan Saha Street in the capital. After searching the house, RAB personnel seized the cash from the house. Rakibul Hassan further said that they also seized foreign currencies-- 174 Malaysian Ringgit, $9,300, Rs5,350, 1,195 Chinese Yuan, 11,560 Thai baht and 100 UAE Dirham.

The crime blusters also seized FDR worth TK 5crore, gold ornaments of around 1kg, and casino equipment. RAB executive magistrate Sarwar Alam said the owner of the six-storied building are Enu and his brother Rupon. Responding to a question, he told that they did not find any one in the house during the raid.

After RAB started operation against casino in the city, the duo went on a hide to avoid arrests. But the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police nabbed Enamul, Rupon and their associate Sheikh Sunny Mostafa from Dhaka’s Keraniganj for their alleged link with casino businesses on January 13.

Enamul is the director of Dhaka Wanderers Club and the expelled vice-president of the Gandaria unit Awami League. His brother Rupon, is also the expelled joint general secretary of the same unit. RAB filed seven cases against the brothers on September last year, a day after seizing huge amount of money and gold, alongside firearms, from their houses during a raid in Old Dhaka.
