The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved the annual development program (ADP) of Tk 2.63 lakh crore for the next fiscal year (2023-24).
The size of the ADP for FY24 has been increased by 6.88 percent compared to FY23.
Besides, about Tk 11,674 crore ADP of autonomous bodies or corporations has been approved.
Therefore, the total size of ADP with the allocation of projects of autonomous institutions or corporations stood at Tk 2.74 lakh crore.
This approval was given in the meeting of the National Economic Council held on Thursday at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and NEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina.
Considering the current global economic context, this ADP has given emphasis on agriculture, agro-based industries, job creation, human resource development, regional balanced development projects, poverty alleviation and natural disaster related projects, Planning Minister MA Mannan said while briefing reporters after attending the NEC meeting.
The briefing was attended by Planning Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Planning Satyajit Karmaker, alongside others.
The ADP will play a supportive role in effectively implementing the policies adopted to achieve inclusive growth, expand the scope of employment and adopt targeted activities for poverty alleviation, Mannan added.
However, the government will provide around Tk169,000 (64.25 percent of total ADP) from its own fund while around Tk 94,000 crore (35.74 percent) will be collected from external sources.
Implementing agencies will spend Tk1,1674 crore for their projects. The size of the ADP is Tk274, 674.02 crore including the cost of self-financed projects.
The total number of projects in the new ADP totaled 1309 including 1118 investment projects, 22 survey projects, 80 technical assistance projects and 89 projects from the autonomous bodies and corporations.
The transport sector will receive the highest amount of Tk75,944.62 crore, which is 28.88 percent of the total allocation.
It was followed by Tk44,393.24 crore (16.88 percent) for the power sector projects, Tk 29,889 crore (11.35 percent) for Education sector, Tk 27,045.65 crore (10.28 percent) for the housing and community facilities sector, Tk 18,880 crore (7.18 percent) for Health sector, Tk 16,204 crore (6.16 percent) for Local Government and Rural Development, Tk 10,707 crore for Agriculture sector, Tk 8,995 crore (3.42 percent) for Environment, climate change and water resources, Tk 5,362 crore (2.04 percent) for Industry and Economic Services(and about Tk 5,321 crore (2.02 percent) ???.)
According to the new ADP for FY24, the highest 10 allocation recipient ministries and divisions are Local Government Division with Tk 40,503 crore (15.40 percent of allocation), Road Transport and Highways Division with Tk 34,062 crore (12.95 percent), Power Division with Tk 33,775 crore (12.84 percent), Railways Ministry with Tk 14,960 crore (5.69 percent), Secondary and Higher Education Division with Tk 14,086 crore (5.36 percent), Science and Technology Ministry with Tk12,980 crore (4.94 percent), Health Services Division with Tk 12,209 crore (4.64 percent), Ministry of Primary and Mass Education with Tk 12,018 crore (4.57 percent), Ministry of Shipping with Tk 9,474 crore (3.60 percent) and Bridges Division with Taka 9,064 crore (3.45 percent).
