All education institutions including schools, colleges and universities are closed since March 17 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Afterwards, the government instructed education institutions to conduct classes online so that students do not fall behind.

Many speculate about the effectiveness of education being disbursed virtually, but what we all want to know is when the students can get back to their classrooms instead of staring into a screen for lectures.

To this end, the government has put forth a massive 5-yr programme to cover all 1.41cr govt primary school students by 2023. It has recently been reported in one of the leading English dailies that the first of which will be a mammoth Tk 19,280 crore project proposal to provide daily school meals to all 1.41 crore government primary school students in a bid to increase attendance and reduce the rate of dropout.

This initiative will hopefully bear fruits and ensure more attendance in the village and remote areas where the rate of dropout is the highest.

This plan will undoubtedly be of great benefits if

implemented to grab the attention of the parents

who are very reluctant to send their children to

schools for education.

The plan further includes the ensuring of 30 percent of daily nutrition of students met through the meal plans. This will also entail better growth and nurturing of these students as in most cases it is found that families in the remote areas are unable to provide foods with proper nutritious value to these children.

Not only this, the long time closure of schools may result in large numbers of dropouts once these schools reopen. In this situation this plan will undoubtedly be of great benefits if implemented to grab the attention of the parents who are very reluctant to send their children to school for education.

On the other hand, this plan proves to be double-beneficial as it will be able to accrue the attendance rate of the students and ensure proper nutritious food for the children enabling them to grow up better as well.

Above all, this plan has the potential to eradicate the problem of dropouts once and for all and must be implemented as soon as possible.
