Tk 10cr crystal meth seized in Cox’s Bazar

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 2.128 kilograms of banned drug crystal meth worth Tk 10 crore from Marine Drive area at Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

However, the BGB could not arrest anyone in connection with the seizure.

The consignment of crystal meth was seized at Moheshkhalia Paraghat area under Teknaf Sadar union adjacent to Marine Drive area on Saturday night. Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, commander of the Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion, confirmed it on Sunday afternoon.

Sources said the BGB learnt that a consignment of drug would arrive from Myanmar through the sea route and reach at Moheshkhalia Paraghat area under Teknaf Sadar union adjacent to Marine Drive area on Saturday night. Accordingly, the BGB personnel took positions at different points being divided into several groups. At about 9:30pm, the BGB personnel saw a suspect was coming down from a boat with a packet at the ghat. As the BGB personnel chased him, he got on board the boat hurriedly and fled toward the sea. Later, the BGB personnel found 2.128kg of ICE in the packet. The BGB is also trying to identify the smuggler.

Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed also said they observe duty at the Bangladesh-Myanmar border on the southernmost part of Bangladesh.

He said legal action would be taken about the seized drugs.
