Tk 1.5cr gold recovered in Chuadanga

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted an anti-smuggling operation at the Phulbari border in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga and recovered 205 tonnes of gold worth Tk 1.5 crore. Chuadanga-6 BGB members raided the place and recovered the gold on Monday afternoon, the BGB said in a press release.

Chuadanga-6 BGB commander Lt Col Mohammad Khalequzzaman said BGB members of Phulbari BOP in Damurhuda upazila came to know on the basis of secret information that a large consignment of gold would be smuggled across the Phulbari border to India.

Based on this news, BGB members have been lurking inside the Phulbari border since Monday morning. At around 1 pm, the smuggler was on his way to India with a smuggled plastic bag through Chakulia Beel on the border. When the BGB members challenged him, the smuggler left the sack and fled. Later, BGB members also recovered 8 gold bars weighing 205 lbs from the sacks left by the smugglers. The estimated value is about one and a half crore taka.
