The government has proposed to allocate Tk 1,223 crore to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for climate change and environmental protection in the 2021-22 fiscal year.
Tk 681 crore has been proposed for operating budget while Tk 542 crore has been proposed for development budget.
Allocation in the climate crisis was 1,247 in the proposed budget and 1,037 in the revised budget for 2020-2021 fiscal year.
The climate relevant allocation for operating budget decreased from 7.46 percent in the fiscal year 2017-18 to 6.26 percent in the fiscal year 2021-22.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while delivering the budget speech said, “Climate policy, plans and strategies adopted by the government have been integrated with the government budget management through the "Inclusive Budgeting and Financing for Climate Resilience" project being implemented by Finance Division. As of now 25 Ministries/Divisions have enabled the climate change dimension in their Ministry Budget Frameworks.”
The government has set a total allocation of Tk 346,106.40 crore to 25 ministries and divisions, according to a climate budget report titled "Climate Financing for Sustainable Development: Budget Report 2021-22".
